Voimatel: Effective comprehensive outsourcing ensures continuity, security and a good user experience

Voimatel Oy designs, builds and maintains critical digital infrastructure and provides services to partners and customers operating fixed or mobile data networks. The stability, security and end-user experience of the IT infrastructure have a particular importance to Voimatel's security-critical operations. Enfo has long been Voimatel's partner in IT services that are important to them.
The cooperation between Voimatel and Enfo has lasted more than 20 years – almost as long as Voimatel has existed. The cooperation has been expanded over the years, and today Voimatel has access to a wide range of Enfo services. The overall outsourcing includes Enfo's capacity and cloud services, network services, security, endpoint management and device lifecycle support, license purchases and Solution Manager service.
A comprehensive approach allows you to focus on the essentials
Head of Business Technology Arto Nyyssönen is responsible for IT at Voimatel and has been involved in the cooperation for several years. According to Nyyssönen, total IT outsourcing has been Voimatel's target state for a long time. When the entity is the responsibility of the partner, Voimatel can focus its own resources on business management and development management.
"We engage in wide-ranging cooperation with Enfo, which has been gradually expanded on a service-based basis. Over the years, we have developed common processes and ways of working, and today Enfo runs our daily operations. Enfo's responsibilities include data center servers, cloud capacity, security,device lifecycle support and RPA. Solution Manager is a new area this year," he says. Enfo's Solution Manager will act as a strong counterpart to Arto, enabling more holistic management and development, actively supported by Enfo.
Reliable data security is a key factor to Voimatel's operations
Because Voimatel is a company critical to security of supply, end-user IT services must function flawlessly throughout Finland and Estonia, where the company has a subsidiary. Among other things, Voimatel uses Enfo's SOC (Security Operations Center) service, which operates 24/7 and monitors threats in real time.
"One of the big areas of cooperation is information security, and we need to keep up with developments in this area. Our own IT organization is small, agile and focuses on managing things and developing operations, while Enfo takes a holistic approach to the practical infrastructure, telecommunications and security side. Enfo will also provide us additional resources for new developments, if needed," says Nyyssönen. “It’s logical that we use Enfo’s comprehensive security services as their experts know how the field is developing. In our weekly security meetings, we review the current status and next alignments. This allows us to effectively review the important, but not burning acute issues of the week. Acute issues are handled through the SOC, and the Service Desk contacts end users when necessary."
Voimatel’s end-user support relies heavily on Enfo. Enfo's Service Desk serves Voimatel employees by email, phone and chat daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Enfo also handles contacts with system suppliers when necessary: for end users, the Service Desk is a one-stop shop. "Managing the support network is a critical part of our business in itself, and we could not run a similar support model with just our own organization. Now, for us, it's easy, efficient and, above all, functional. Installers and end users in the field are also satisfied with the service. They feel that the customer service is friendly and good, that it is easy to get things done and that the service is professional and competent," says Nyyssönen.
Enfo has been given increasing responsibility for cooperation with Voimatel's technology suppliers. According to Nyyssönen, this makes it easier to carry out the processes. "We are involved in a loop, but vendors move things forward with each other. We develop different governance models in the background to support this. It is important that cooperation also works across organizational boundaries. Direct communication between suppliers speeds up the progress of matters and is part of ensuring the security and continuity of services."
Voimatel's critical infrastructure relies on Enfo's platform services
Enfo is responsible for Voimatel's server capacity, and the systems are run in a data center and cloud service managed by Enfo. In addition, Voimatel has a dedicated specialist working on basic IT infrastructure and security. According to Nyyssönen, cooperation works well also in this service. Enfo ensures that our server environment is at the desired level and availability is excellent. Enfo has drawn up a road map of the service environment, so that we know when it is time to start updating."
Of the cloud services, Microsoft's Azure and M365 services are widely used by Voimatel with the assistance of Enfo. "Together with Enfo, we consider the best up-to-date solution for what to store in the cloud and what to store in data centers. Our aim is not to move to cloud services completely, but to look together at the most suitable solutions for us, whether they are in the cloud or in data centers," says Nyyssönen.
"The key personnel at Enfo, Kalle Siren and Sirkka Kakko, have been involved for a long time and have a strong knowledge of us. They also have an active desire to develop things together, and everyday life runs very smoothly," he praises.
Effective cooperation brings great results
Arto Nyyssönen says that the development of services and strong partnership is the result of long cooperation, documentation, smooth everyday life and understanding of Voimatel's business and needs.
"This has been a common squeeze of many years, and we are able to keep improving our joint processes. The practical dialogue facilitates the introduction of new services." He says Enfo is a competent and appropriately sized player: "The core team at Enfo has a good level of expertise in Voimatel. When we need to acquire new tools or services, they are agile. Reaction times are fast and no time is wasted on bureaucracy."
Sirkka Kakko, Customer Relationship Manager at Enfo, says that building a good customer experience is the base for Enfo: "The Enfo team works to make sure that the necessary things happen and that it is easy and pleasant to work with us. A long relationship helps us understand the customer's business and we want the customer to succeed in their own work." Kalle Siren, Service Manager at Enfo, agrees and thanks Voimatel: "Enfo's experts are very happy to work with Voimatel. The environment offers interesting tasks to solve, and cooperation is perceived as smooth."
The smooth cooperation has yielded great results: the annual end-user survey in 2024 had an excellent average score of 4.2 on a scale of 1 to 5, while customer service friendliness scored a whopping 4.6.
"Our end-users find the service excellent. This provides a strong basis for continuing cooperation, and our contract was renewed again early this year. Enfo is easy to approach and all the people are nice. Enfo is an active partner and brings to our attention issues that need to be addressed either immediately or later. I strongly recommend," concludes Nyyssönen.
